NCCCO Elects Directors, Officers for 2010

April 2010  –  The Board of Directors of the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) has announced the Directors and Officers who will serve NCCCO during 2010.

Elected to the office of President for a further one-year term is John Kennedy, Manitowoc Crane Group, Manitowoc, WI. Prior to being elected President in 2005, Kennedy served two terms as Secretary/Treasurer.

Ronald Schad, Essex Crane Rental, Buffalo Grove, IL, continues as Immediate Past President. Schad served the Board as President from 2002-2004.

J. Chris Ryan, Boh Bros. Construction, Baton Rouge, LA, has been elected to the position of Vice President.  Ryan has been a member of the Board since 2003.

Elected to a one-year term as Secretary/Treasurer is Thom Sicklesteel, Sicklesteel Cranes, Mount Vernon, WA.  Sicklesteel has been a member of the Board since 2009; this is his first term as Vice President.

Kerry Hulse, Deep South Crane & Rigging, Houston, TX, continues to serve the Board in the capacity of Chairman, Commissioners.

As a result of elections by the Commissioners earlier this year, three new members join the Board in 2010.  Among those newly elected to three-year terms are: Vinal George Bell, Cianbro Equipment, Pittsfield, Maine; Donald Black, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18, Columbus, OH; and Joseph Collins, Precision Resource Co., Shelton, CT, a Zachry company. Dale Daul, McGough Construction, St. Paul, MN, also continues to serve on the Board in the second year of his three-year term.


 Flanked by National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators’ (NCCCO) Executive Director, Graham Brent (far left) and John Kennedy, NCCCO President (far right), retiring Board members, Garry Higdem (second from left) and Robert Steiner, were recognized for their service at the March 2, 2010 meeting of the NCCCO Board of Directors.  “It’s been an extraordinary privilege to have been a part of NCCCO as a member of the Board of Directors for the past decade,” said Garry Higdem, CH2MHill, who also served as NCCCO’s Vice President. “This has just been the right thing to do, at the right time, for all the right reasons.”  Robert Steiner, Barcelona Equipment, noted, “To see the mission of this organization fulfilled has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I have been proud to have been a part of this safety initiative that more than anything else I can think of has had such a positive impact on the safety of lifting operations around the country.”

All three new Board members bring to NCCCO extensive crane-related experience as well as a history of ongoing participation. George Bell, equipment general manager at Cianbro Equipment, has been with the company since 1973 and manages 125 team members and 3,000 pieces of equipment. Donald Black, administrative manager of the Ohio Operating Engineers Apprenticeship and Training Fund, brings to the Board a perspective grounded in one of the most active IUOE training programs in the country. And Joe Collins, former crane department supervisor at Zachry Construction Corp., has over 35 years of experience in heavy industrial construction. Prior to being elected to the Board, Collins served on the NCCCO Commission for more than four years.
