New eSubmit System Speeds Up Certification

June 2014—A new system for submitting CCO practical exam score sheets electronically that expedites the scoring and certification process has been introduced by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO). Dubbed “eSubmit,” and introduced as part of NCCCO’s policy of continuing program improvement, the new system establishes a process that allows Practical Examiners to scan and email Practical Exam score sheets to NCCCO’s testing services provider, International Assessment Institute (IAI), rather than shipping them using a traceable carrier.

The launch of eSubmit follows several months of pilot testing and is now available for NCCCO Practical Examiners in good standing. More than 100 NCCCO Practical Examiners had been approved to use eSubmit by the end of May, and approximately 40 percent of CCO practical exams are now being submitted using the new system, said Joel Oliva, Manager, Program Development and Test Administration. “eSubmit can be used for all CCO programs requiring a practical exam, including those for Crane and Digger Derrick Operators, Signalpersons, and both Level I and Level II Riggers,” he said.

“Anything NCCCO can do to help get results to candidates faster is a good thing because increasingly candidates need their CCO certification to work,” said Ray Feidt, Inspection/Training Manager at Stephenson Equipment, Inc., Harrisburg, PA. “We’ve seen the turnaround time for receiving score reports reduced by an average of four days using eSubmit. Plus, the new system has completely eliminated the costs and labor associated with conventional shipping methods.”
