Essex Crane Rental Backs CCO Signalperson and Rigger Certifications

December 2010 - In an effort to help employers prepare for the new qualification requirements for riggers and signal persons specified by the new OSHA rules for Cranes and Derricks in Construction (29 CFR 1426, Subpart CC), Essex Crane Rental Corp. held a combined CCO Signalperson and Rigger Level I Practical Examiner Accreditation Program (PEAP) workshop at its Alabaster, AL, facility in October.

The new OSHA rules, which require riggers and signalperson to be qualified, became effective November 8, so there is an increased need for accredited NCCCO Practical Examiners who can administer the CCO Rigger and Signalperson certification exams. As a result of the combined PEAP workshop held at Essex, seven new Signalperson Practical Examiners and four new Rigger Level I Practical Examiners are now authorized to administer the CCO exams. Bruce Johnson, Essex’s Safety Manager, was among the new Practical Examiners participating in the workshop, which will add to his existing CCO Signalperson and Rigger Level I certifications.

“As someone who works with cranes on a daily basis, I understand the importance of having qualified personnel on the jobsite,” stated Ron Schad, President and Chief Operating Office of Essex Crane Rental. “Essex looks forward to continuing to help NCCCO with its efforts to bring the industry into compliance with the new regulations.”
